Forster described ‘The Life to Come’ as “violent and wholly unpublishable” It relates one poignant sexual encounter that takes place between a South American chieftain, Vithobai, “the wildest, strongest, most stubborn of all the inland chieftains” and the young priest with whom he falls in love, Paul Pinmay, who is in all ways, Vithobai’s inferior. In a single night their passion transforms into rejection.

The fourteen stories in this book span six decades—from 1903 to 1957 or even later—and represent every phase of Forster's career as a writer. About a third of them deal with homosexuality.

We get a character's denial of love reveals the constricting effects of conventional society and leads to his physical, emotional, or spiritual death. In "The Life to Come," a Christian missionary, who becomes a native's lover for one night, denies his feelings for his lover who later stabs him to death before killing himself. In "Dr Woolacott" a dying patient refuses the aid of his doctor and chooses instead the spirit-saving love of an unknown boy, even though his choice causes his physical death. ".

Love this little book.....

I made A's in both general chemistry classes, but I was terrified of Organic Chemistry because I was told so many times that it is a very difficult class. You must learn the material as you go because each new topic adds to the last. For me, just memorizing the material doesn't work. If I can't understand it, I can't memorize it! I am an older, non-traditional student and I have found this book to be a sanity saver! I use this book first to understand the material, then my textbook second. The information is complete and is easily understood. The pressure seems to be on authors to create a textbook that adds mystery to the subject and weighs no less than 20 pounds - full of superfluous information. This fits in my purse and I can study even a few pages at a time when I have a few minutes. The exercises are appropriate to practice what I am given as textbook assignment questions. I started in the summer before class began and worked my way through the first 5 chapters. What a relief to get to class and actually understand the material we are discussing. I love this book! It has me hooked on organic chemistry - and I understand it!! It is so worth the price!! I certainly plan on ordering the Klein second semester topics as well.

Very good for getting a solid footing in Ochem

Klein does a good job explaining difficult concepts in Ochem, I would honestly say this book is what you want to use when you are more or less lost, and what I mean by that is that this book is very good for guiding you and explaining the concepts in a very easy way if you are having a lot of difficulty understanding the concepts. There are some practice problems with answers in the book.

The questions are not exam grade, they are just enough to help you get the idea. You need to do additional problems outside this book.

Also, this book doesn't have NMR or IR spectroscopy! 2 VERY IMPORTANT TOPICS YOU ARE ALMOST GUARANTEED TO FIND IN AN OCHEM CLASS!

Now once you have a decent grasp of the concepts, you have to do a LOT of practice problems to get ready for a university grade exam and that's where you need to use either your textbook, or something like schaum's to get a lot of practice.

I knew I would have some trouble with Orgo from the start as I am not too science savvy, math is my strong point. I had trouble with even the most basic concepts at the beginning. This book breaks down topics for people who aren't as great at comprehending text or pictures. I feel like it's basically a "for dummies" collection without it being too simplified and speaks in a formal tone. It's very very simplistic to understand. I think one great aspect of it is that not only does it explain how to do a problem, it also offers along practice problems. I basically relied on this book heavily to save my grade and it delivered. I'm planning on ordering the second portion of it when I enter into Orgo 2. I'm very happy I listened to everyone who said to order this as it was worth it.
Ps. this book is good for simple orgo but if you are taking orgo at a hard school like Rutgers, it really wont make much of a difference. This is just a good intro book

Never have I read a book that has moved me to write a review. I just wanted to say a few things about this book I just finished called Bias by Bernard Goldberg, it is about liberal bias in the media Goldberg cites examples, Steve Forbes running for president talking about his flat tax would allow more time for people to spend with their loved ones. The book sites reporter Eric Goldberg calling this flat tax. “A scheme and elixir”. What Mister Goldberg is trying to point out with this book and I think he does it very well, is that they would never say anything like that if Hillary Clinton had a similar idea that is one of many examples in this book of how the journalists put their particular slant on the news stories and are unable according to this book be objective. This book also cites stories of certain social criteria that journalists feel strongly about, and change information to make the story more sympathetic to the viewers, as well as not talking about stories that may offend viewers.

The only thing that I did not enjoy about this book is that the author spends a great deal of time reiterating how many enemies he made writing an op-ed piece for the Wall Street Journal, which became the Genesis for this book. It’s as if when he runs out of actual examples he goes back to telling stories that his bosses said he might not have a job anymore. That’s an intriguing part of the book, but he spends the entire introduction telling us about that, and then halfway through the book it states again. This is a bit like the tell-all book, i.e. Bob Woodward wired, except with newscasters instead of John Belushi and Hollywood.

All in all, this is an exceptional book. I thoroughly enjoyed it. If you’re interested in learning more about the nightly news, and how the information is disseminated this is a book for you.

WASTE OF TIME

One man's pithy self centered diatribe and sour grapes after CBS fired him. Terrible writing, terrible research (because it's non-existent) and worst of all a primary example of BIAS in reporting! Bernard Goldberg isn't a journalist, he's a profiteer, and a whiny one at that. I got the book free but it was still a complete waste of my time.
